McStas svn page OBSOLETE page - code is now available at the joint GitHub repository of McStas and McXtrace.

SVN code

If you are interested in trying out our development source code, you are welcome to do so. The joint code-base of McStas and McXtrace is availabe via svn:

svn co https://svn.mccode.org/svn/McCode/trunk

The code can also be browsed using our Trac. You can also checkout a specific McStas release with e.g.

svn co https://svn.mccode.org/svn/McCode/tags/mcstas-2.0
You will need CMake >= 2.8 and flex, bison, gcc.

The SVN is automatically built on daily basis. Packages and reports on the automatic tests is available at http://nightly.mccode.org.

Simple build procedure (from svn check-out):

Navigate to the source directory (e.g. trunk or mcstas-2.0) and start build with e.g.:
  • ./build_debs_mcstas
  • ./build_src_bin_mcstas
If you want a non-standard installation-prefix (defaults to e.g. /usr/local/), please do a
export MCINSTALL_PREFIX=/some/path/somewhere
before running the build_* scripts.

Manual build procedure (from tar.gz):

You can build each of the provided McStas source packages using e.g.
  • tar xzf mcstas-2.0-src.tar.gz
  • cd mcstas-2.0-src
  • mkdir build && cd build
  • To install in /usr/local as usual use
    cmake ..
    - otherwise use
    cmake -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=/somewhere/else ..
  • Afterwards perform
    make
    and
    make install
    as usual

The build steps above as minimum need to be performed for the packages
  • mcstas-2.0-src.tar.gz and mcstas-comps-2.0-src.tar.gz
For the legacy set of Perl tools you will need to build
  • mcstas-tools-perl-2.0-src.tar.gz
  • For the supplementary set of Python tools you will need to build
    • mcstas-tools-python-mcrun-2.0-src.tar.gz and either
      mcstas-tools-python-mcplot-chaco-2.0-src.tar.gz or mcstas-tools-python-mcplot-matplotlib-2.0-src.tar.gz

Should you ever want to build our current development version, check it out from our SVN at https://svn.mccode.org/svn/McCode/trunk and have a look at e.g. build_debs_mcstas in the top level.
